Track sends slew of athletes to area

The Smithville Lady Tiger track team finished third overall, and will send several athletes to the area meet with a strong showing at the District 26-3A Track and Field Championships in Giddings April 10-11.

“With a limited amount of athletes, they racked up a good amount of points and placed high in their individual events,” coach Tanna Christian said.

Ashley Cardwell finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.39. Rachael Davee was second in the 400 meter dash at 1:00.78 and first in the 800 meter run at 2:26. Teammate Haley Brigs also earned points in the 800 with a time of 2:32.

Alex Moffatt will compete in three events at the area meet. She finished third in the 100 meter hurdles (17.04), second in the pole vault (10-6) and second in the long jump (16-5). Maygan Washington was second in the triple jump (36-1), Alex Woldridge captured silver in the shot put (37-10). Sabrina Nieto was fourth in the shot at 35-0 and captured a silver medal of her own with a throw of 115-4 in the discus. Kaylan Henderson was sixth in the long jump at 15-5.

Both the 400 meter and 1600 meter relays racked up points by finishing second.

The 400 meter relay was comprised of Alexis Heath, Madison Whitney, Washington and Moffatt and finished with a time of 50.8. They will also send Jasmine Blackmon to the area meet as an alternate.

The 1600 meter relay team was comprised of Briggs, Shelby Davee, Cardwell and Rachael Davee. They ran a time of 4:09. They will also send Erin Paxton to the area meet as an alternate.

Boys

The Tiger boys track team was short-handed, but still placed a handful of athletes.

Cearan Adkins earned a place at the area meet with a fourth place showing in the triple jump (42-6).

Ty Stockton earned points for the boys’ team with a fifth place finish in the 110 high hurdles (16.94) and a sixth place showing in the 300 meter hurdles (44.67).

Devante Patridge was fifth in the high jump with a height of 5-6.
